Statistics mention different numbers of known Durak game variations. Some researchers believe there are about 50, others claim 80, and some even say around 100. However, most people can play at best three main types:
- Podkidnoy Durak;
- Perevodnoy Durak;
- Team Durak.
Today, we’ll talk about the rare variations of the Durak game.

Spades Beat Spades
The basic rules are the same as in Podkidnoy Durak. The main difference is that the spade suit is always stronger than the trump suit - in other words, you can beat any card with a spade. The highest card in this version is the Queen of Spades, which beats both the King and the Ace of the same suit.
This game is sometimes also called “Vini Vinyami” or “Japanese Durak.”
In a similar variation, diamonds are considered the super-trump suit instead of spades.
Double-Trump Durak
In this version, each player has their own trump suit (usually played by two people). For example, if one player chooses clubs as their trump, they can beat any card with a club when they don’t have a matching suit. At the same time, the second player might choose diamonds as their trump and can freely defend with it.
If you attack your opponent using their own trump suit, they must beat it with a higher card of the same suit.
No-Suit Durak
In this variation, the concept of a trump still exists, but only card rank matters. For example, you can easily beat a six of clubs with a seven of hearts - or with a trump, if you wish.
Round Durak
The rules are the same as in Podkidnoy Durak, but there’s an unexpected twist: after each round (when cards go to the discard pile or someone has to draw), players exchange their cards. If there are many players, the exchange happens clockwise. On one hand, you’ll know what cards your neighbor has, but on the other, it can be quite confusing. Either way, this version deserves attention.
Chukotka Durak
This is another unusual variant. After each player receives six cards and the trump is revealed, the remaining deck and the trump card are removed from the game. You must rely only on the six cards you were initially dealt.
Second Chance
This is probably the most forgiving version: if you can’t defend, you can draw one more card from the deck. Or, if you prefer, you can immediately take the cards - it’s up to you. However, if the card you draw doesn’t help, you can’t return it to the deck and must keep it. This version resembles the game of dominoes, where you have to “go to the market” for the right tile.
